Centering prayer is a popular method of contemplative prayer or Christian meditation, placing a strong emphasis on interior silence.
Based on the rich heritage of contemplative prayer in the ancient Christian tradition, Centering Prayer is a silent prayer of consenting to God’s presence and action within us. It is a receptive prayer practice that is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Lectio Divina, literally divine reading, is an ancient Christian practice of praying the scriptures/sacred texts. It is a participatory, active practice that uses thoughts, images and insights to enter into a conversation with God. This is an open and ongoing spiritual group offering support to persons interested in Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina.
No prior experience needed.
“Be still and know that I am God “ – Psalms 46
Details of Centering Prayer Group: A silent 20 minutes of Centering Prayer followed by a reading of a sacred/spiritual text.
This group’s primary purpose is to help sustain the commitment to a regular practice of Centering Prayer, deepen the understanding of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina, and to be a community support for spiritual journey. This is not a psychological therapy group.
